Biographical Text
Pupil of Johannes Chrysoloras in Constantinople, from where he brought 40 Greek MSS. to Italy. Itinerant teacher in Vienna, Venice, Bologna, Florence (1429-1434) , Siena, Milan 1440-1474, thereafter he lived until shortly after his death in Rome. He was appointed poet laureate and apostolic secretary by Pope Nicolaus V in 1453.
